The Council of Ministers of the Peace Government announced that the liberation of the Sixth Infantry Division in the city of El Fasher – North Darfur – from the grip of the Islamic Movement militias and their allies represents a decisive strategic turning point in the path toward reclaiming the abducted Sudanese state. It embodies the steadfast will of the Sudanese people to build professional national institutions that reflect justice and equality and achieve comprehensive and sustainable peace.

The statement explained that the Sixth Infantry Division, which for years worked to sow discord and divide communities in El Fasher and across North Darfur, had historically been known for the cohesion, unity, and peaceful coexistence of its communities. The Council of Ministers said that its liberation represents a liberation of the communities of North Darfur and other regions of Sudan from the elements of division and discord employed by the intelligence of the Islamic Movement’s terrorist army.

The Council affirmed that this victory opens the way for the return of all displaced persons and refugees driven from their homes by the war imposed by the Islamic Movement’s terrorist leadership and its criminal army. It also creates opportunities to restore citizens’ productive capacity and normal life across all towns and rural areas of the state.

The statement stressed that the government will maintain continuous coordination with the military leadership in El Fasher and throughout North Darfur to protect civilians and public and private property, and safeguard humanitarian organizations operating in the state. It also highlighted the government’s readiness for direct cooperation with UN agencies and humanitarian organizations to ensure the urgent delivery of aid to the population.

The Council of Ministers warned citizens that the Islamic Movement’s terrorist militias have planted the city with prohibited landmines, and that current efforts will focus on clearing these mines to ensure the safe return of civilians.

Finally, the Council emphasized that ending the wars and addressing their root causes according to the principles of the Sudan Founding Charter, in order to achieve lasting and comprehensive peace, will remain the strategic goal of the Peace Government, to free the Sudanese people from the control of criminal militias led by what is called the army of the Islamic Movement’s terrorist organization.
