The International Coalition for Human Rights has strongly condemned General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, leader of the so-called “Port Sudan Authority,” for announcing the creation of a committee to investigate allegations that the Sudanese army—widely referred to as “Ali Karti’s Army”—used chemical weapons against civilians.

The coalition described the move as a “political charade and a legal travesty”, stressing that al-Burhan himself is the primary suspect in these crimes, making his supervision of such an investigation an “insult to logic, justice, and the international community.”

“The accused cannot act as investigator and jury in a case where he is personally implicated,” the coalition said in its statement. “These internal committees are nothing more than public relations stunts aimed at easing international pressure and repairing a crumbling domestic image.”

The coalition also criticized al-Burhan for failing to directly deny the allegations, calling his silence a further sign of a lack of transparency. It urged the establishment of an independent international investigation to uncover the truth and ensure accountability for the alleged use of internationally banned weapons.

The statement concluded by warning that neither the Sudanese people nor the international community would be deceived by “sham committees or political theater,” affirming that justice will eventually reach those responsible for war crimes and violations of human dignity.
